Social Impact
We build relationships
Inti coffee is grown on a small farm in the south of Ecuador. The producer, Jose Jiménez, has been growing coffee for decades, following a prideful generational tradition that has been passed down for the last 90 years. He is the reason Inti Coffee exists. By partnering with him, we bring to you the best coffee we know and he gets the financial freedom to succeed and expand his business.
Many producers have no choice but to sell their coffee to brokers. By working directly with José, we cut out that middleman which gives José, his family, and his workers a better livelihood.

Environmental Considerations
From the ground up
Our beans not only allow José and his workers to thrive, but they also give back to the ground they come from, as José composts all waste from the outer casing of the coffee cherries after they have fermented. He uses that same compost to fertilize his coffee plants.

Guilt-Free Packaging
100% home compostable
None of our packagings leaves behind any microplastics! Our packaging is 100% compostable. It can be composted both at home or in an industrial facility. The coffee bags are made using Grounded’s renewable Plantcell technology. All components including zippers and valves are made from plants and are fully biodegradable and compostable.
They break down into healthy compost leaving no microplastics and conform to all major compost certifications including OK Compost Home and AS5810.

Ocean Initiaves
Help us clean up plastic waste
We also have chosen Grounded compostable coffee bags for our coffee’s packaging, which support an initiative to collect plastic waste from ocean water in the Philippines and Indonesia, #1 and #5 respectively for the generation of plastic ocean waste.
By purchasing our bags of coffee, you also support the removal of plastic in the ocean and boycott plastic usage. By supporting our business, you support a movement!

Future Initiatives
# sustainability goals
Our goal is to foster the growth of our company and develop a cradle to cradle business model that supports a circular economy. Some goals for the future:
- Create a bag take-back program for customers who do not have backyards or industrial composters in their communities.
- Get registered as a B-Corp business
- We strive to be carbon neutral and hope to reach carbon-negative by 2023.
- We plan to donate a percentage of profits to organizations that support protecting our planet.

Transparency
From the ground up, we want to be real with you, we have nothing to hide. Because we believe that trust is what matters most in the relationship with our customers.

Water Usage
# sustainability goals
It is no secret that coffee is a labor and resource-intensive crop to grow. The Dutch NGO Water Footprint Network estimates that a standard cup of coffee or espresso requires 140 liters of water.
Although this ratio is quite alarming, small-lot farming allows for sustainable alternatives to water sourcing such as shade-growing and water reclamation.
At our farm, at 1734 meters altitude (5690 ft.), the slope of the mountain allows for water runoff, which is collected by José in a large pool and used to water the trees.

Residual Waste
Waste = Opportunity
Another issue in our industry is the wasteful process of separating coffee beans from their pulp. The pulp from the cherries can be a valuable source of compostable material, but instead, some farmers choose to discard this waste into rivers, acting as a toxin polluting the local water supplies.
The leftover pulp from our farm is used to produce compost that goes back into the farm – a sustainable practice that diverts waste and replenishes the soil.
