From Ecuador to the World
Located in a tiny mountain community called Potrerillos, it’s no surprise Inti’s farm sits in the province of Ecuador known for some of the best coffees in the country and the world.

Who is José Jiménez?
José Jiménez is the caretaker and cultivator of the coffee beans that you know and love. His knowledge and expertise in coffee have been passed down through three generations of coffee farmers.
Not only is growing coffee in his DNA, but it is also a deep passion that he seeks to continuously improve and advance.
José’s lifestyle is based around his coffee and his farm.

José Jiménez
A day in the life
He wakes up every morning at 5 AM without fail to tend to the animals and plants that reside on his land. His family is also a crucial part of his life; his wife, daughter, and brothers and sisters all help him daily on his farm.
There is a peak period of about 4 months for coffee production where José employs 5 people to help him. José truly is a man of the earth, as he follows the lunar calendar for the best days to cultivate and harvest. He rests only on the days of the “Luna Tierna” or the new moon when the plants are considered more sensitive.

Reaching Great Heights
Altitude + Water Usage
Inti Coffee is shade grown at an altitude of 1,734 meters (5,690 ft.) on sloped land. The slope of the mountain allows for water runoff, which is collected by José in a pool of water and used to water his plants. It is well-known that the coffee industry uses high quantities of water to maintain the plants, however, Inti Coffee’s sustainable watering practices ensure there is zero water wasted.

Shade + Flavor
Inti's farm is filled with a variety of fruit trees of all kinds that provide the coffee not only with the natural shade it needs but also contribute the complex and balanced flavor notes we find in our cup.
Some of the fruits grown on the farm include chirimoya fruit, sapote, papaya, bananas, lemons, avocados, passion fruit, pomegranate, plantains, oranges, and limes.

Beyond Organic
How is our coffee grown?
Our coffee is 100% certified organic. No pesticides are used in our coffee production. Our coffee plants are treated by José with an old technique, using a special micro-organism called “beauveria” in a spray that naturally keeps away any harmful insects and does not compromise the quality or integrity of our coffee. The biodiversity of the different plants also acts as a natural pesticide.

Farm-Made Compost
Another effort made that makes our coffee a great organic specialty alternative is the use of true compost as fertilizer for our trees.
The compost is made in-farm with a combination of all the food that José and his family eat and collect from the land (including food scraps, the casings from coffee cherries and peanuts, along with manure from all animals around). This compost takes its time to reach the correct temperature at which it breaks down to become its most nutrient-dense, which allows for the highest quality soil and in turn, the highest quality coffee.
